The season of appetite has arrived! From late October to early May, the Seto Inland Sea coast near Himeji Castle is in peak oyster season. After exploring the castle, why not enjoy freshly grilled or raw oysters and other seafood delicacies at a charming seaside oyster hut?

Deep Himeji Stories: Paul Radloff from Tront Explore Castle, Sunagawa Lacquerware, and Nadagiku Sake Brewery, a renowned sake brewery

🇨🇦 We had the pleasure of guiding Mr. Paul Radloff from Toronto on a cultural journey in Himeji.

🏯 After exploring Himeji Castle, we visited Sunakawa Lacquerware Studio. Mr. Sunakawa is the master craftsman responsible for the lacquer and goldwork on the Hishino-mon Gate of Himeji Castle, and Paul had the chance to experience the atmosphere of his workshop. He learned about the beauty of traditional Japanese crafts such as lacquer coating, carving, and gold leaf application, used for festival floats and lion masks. ✨🎭

🍶 The journey continued at Nadagiku Sake Brewery, where he discovered the process of sake brewing, enjoyed a tasting session, and indulged in a unique sukiyaki dish topped with cotton candy — a truly memorable culinary experience! 🍲🍭

🌾 Along the way, Paul was fascinated by the sight of rice fields in the middle of town, asking with curiosity, “Are those rice paddies?” — a glimpse into Japan’s timeless rural landscape.

😊 At the end of the day, he kindly said, “When you come to Toronto, please let me know!” — words that warmed my heart and made this journey even more special.

Let's share this post !
