The season of appetite has arrived! From late October to early May, the Seto Inland Sea coast near Himeji Castle is in peak oyster season. After exploring the castle, why not enjoy freshly grilled or raw oysters and other seafood delicacies at a charming seaside oyster hut?

Capturing Himeji’s Magic: A Tour of Mt. Shosha, Himeji Castle & Local Flavors

We had the pleasure of guiding Lawrence and Alexis 💑 from Louisiana 🇺🇸 on a 4-hour tour in Himeji.

We welcomed them at Himeji Station 🚉 and started with a view of Himeji Castle 🏯 from Castle View, where I explained a bit about its history and outer moat. Then, by minivan 🚐 we headed to Shoshazan Engyō-ji. After taking the ropeway 🚡, we were greeted by the breathtaking Maniden Hall surrounded by deep greenery 🌿🍃.

Lawrence, a passionate photographer 📸, couldn’t stop taking photos, sighing with amazement at every angle 😍. Inside the hall, we experienced the silence 🕯️ and offered candles and incense 🙏. At the Inner Sanctuary 奥の院, its majestic and solemn presence left us in awe, and we shared a moment of peace 🌸.

For lunch, at Lawrence’s request to try okonomiyaki, we went to Neko Bus Tei 🍳🥢. The hearty portion surprised them, but they enjoyed it very much 😋👍.

Finally, we visited Himeji Castle 🏯✨. We were lucky enough to enter the Hishi-no-mon Gate during its special opening 🎉 and enjoyed the view from inside the gate as well. They fully explored the main keep ⛩️ and, before heading back to the station, we stopped by Sunakawa’s lacquer workshop 🎨, where they got a small peek into the craft world.

It was such a memorable day full of history, beauty, and smiles 💖✨.
