The season of appetite has arrived! From late October to early May, the Seto Inland Sea coast near Himeji Castle is in peak oyster season. After exploring the castle, why not enjoy freshly grilled or raw oysters and other seafood delicacies at a charming seaside oyster hut?

A Textile Artist’s Dream Day in Himeji: Castle, Crafts, and Cuisine

We had the pleasure of welcoming Penny & Rufus Sander 💑.

After a wonderful and in-depth visit to Himeji Castle 🏯✨, we enjoyed a delicious lunch of Izushi soba at Bunraku 🍜😋.

Then we visited ChikuDaitei 🌿🎨, the natural dyeing studio that Penny had been so looking forward to! Since Penny herself is a talented textile artist 🧵🪡 who creates quilts and fabric works, she was absolutely thrilled the moment we arrived 😍💫.

She chose her favorite fabric 🪡🧶, picked a color, and carefully applied colors made from rice 🌾🎨 onto the fabric. After drying, it was time for dyeing and rinsing with water 💦—and finally, the beautiful piece was complete 🎉👏.

Under the kind and detailed guidance of the teacher 🙏✨, Penny created her own unique artwork, smiling all the way through 💖.

Such a joyful and creative experience together 🌸💫!
